Take A Drive

The Oregon Coast is full of great destinations including the famous Tillamook Cheese Factory in Tillamook, Oregon, the Newport Beach Aquarium in Newport Beach, Irelands Rustic Lodge, located in Gold Beach Oregon and many many more. The Oregon Coast is known for its predictably unpredictable weather. You can be assured though that if your stay is longer than three days you will be able to see the sun shinning through and have a gorgeous day on the beach. That of course is not to say that it won't be a good day if its cloudy, it just wont be as warm.

The oregon Coast has an abundance of lighthouses that are open for tours and are great stops down Hwy 101. Some are located on the edge of bays so the winds can be in the upper 80 MPH range but it sure doesn't take away from the beauty.

As I mentioned before the Oregon Coast doesn't have the warmest beach goers weather but the farther south you head the warmer it will get. Once you get down to Brookings, Oregon then you are looking at some pretty decent beach temps.

Great Waves

Now mind you I am playing a little trick on you as these kinds of waves are not typical on the Oregon Coast, however when the winds pick up we can get some pretty decent swells of up to 4-5 feet. There are very few surf shops, I would say one in each town but they do provide full rentals of all equipment needed even wetsuits. No matter what season it is you will need a wetsuit because the water temperature is quite cold. Brookings is probably your best bet for warmer ocean water along the Oregon Coast but that would just be mid to late summer.

If you plan on surfing along the Oregon Coast and are not familiar with the currents you need to check weather reports before heading out as currents can get very strong and no Oregon Beach has a lifeguard on duty. Also be aware that even though the beach may look soft and sandy the Oregon Coastline is full of random jutting rocks, and some can lie just below the surface out of your view.

If you want to see and learn more about surfing (the videos are awesome to watch) then head on over to SurferMag.com where they have been providing surfing news, tips and tricks since the 60's.
