Gold Beach, Oregon

The Treasures of Gold Beach

It may not have gold but it is full of wonderful treasures. Walking along the beach, watching the seals, whale watching, windsurfing, fishing or anything you want to do at the beach you can do here. Jetty's for fishing and watching the seals fish, getting soaking wet as the waves crash over your head. That is always a great feeling..except of course when it's cold and windy.

Home to Ireland's Rustic Lodge/Gold Beach Inn, you will find excellent accommodations in this fine beach town. Ireland's stays busy most of the year around so it is always advised to reserve your room, cabin or house well in advance. Yes, I said house, Ireland's has houses to rent if you have a big party or you just want extra room. The rates aren't bad at all but reservations are highly recommended. Do you have a family the size of the Duggars? If so I am sorry that's a lot of work, but the good news is it wont cost you an arm and a leg to rent a beach house less than 100 yards from the beach. The trail from the hotel is very accessible and is not scary to walk to and from even if you decide you want to take an evening or night stroll along the beach.

There is nothing quite like a stroll on the beach at night, the sounds, sites and smells are enchanting. The best time of course is under the full moon however, any time of night is good. If you have access to tide tables then you may even catch a super low tide and you could find a treasure trove of interesting creatures and habitats that aren't normally visible, unless of course you are scuba diving. Starfish are obviously the most abundant along with hermit crabs, which you can hear jumping off the rocks as you get close to them. It's a good idea to be careful as you walk along because you don't want to kill or injure anything as all the creatures and inhabitants are incredibly fragile. Everyone that goes to a tide pool wants to find the ultimate creature and that would be the elusive Octopus. The way to give yourself the best chance of seeing one of these magnificent animals is to find the lowest tide of the day, month or year and go out as far as you can and look in every crevice you come across. They can fit in the smallest of small places as there beak is the only part of their body that is bone.
